Confirmation Community Service

FOR THOSE CELEBRATING CONFIRMATION IN 2018

This year, your child will be preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. As your child will be learning this year, this sacrament will complete his/her initiation into the Catholic Church as he/she will become an “adult” in the faith, ready to take on and fulfill the promises you made for your child when they were first Baptized as Catholics.

Our Catechetical theme for this year, “Living as Missionary Disciples,” reminds us of our mission as members of the Catholic Church to live out our faith by serving our brothers and sisters in need. We are constantly called to follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ, who said, “[W]hatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Mt. 25:40).  Therefore, as part of your child’s preparation for Confirmation and in responding to Christ’s call to service, each candidate will be required to complete ten (10) hours of "direct" community service during this catechetical year.

These ten (10) hours of community service will need to be completed prior to your child celebrating his/her confirmation. Your child will need to submit paperwork documenting their service hours no later than February 3, 2018. We have included some information (see to the right) regarding what will and will not count as community service for your child’s Confirmation, as well as the paperwork and process involved in reporting the community service hours they perform.

It is our hope that in performing “direct” service to people in need right in our community, each candidate for Confirmation will have the opportunity to grow in their faith, become men and women of virtue, and develop the practice of serving their neighbor. By sharing their time and talents with those in need, they hopefully will receive more than what they give and deepen their awareness of our call as Catholics to “Live as Missionary Disciples” and share what we have in service to others.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you, and God bless you.

  • A report will need to be completed and submitted to document the service hours done, with an original signature, along with a letter on the organization's original letterhead/stationery.
