Confirmation Community Service

NEW INFORMATION - November, 2020

  • This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, In lieu of the usual 10 “direct” community service hours required for Confirmation, students will need to participate in the Youth Group.
  • Sessions for the Confirmation classes will take place on Fridays from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
  • All Youth Group sessions will take place online until further notice.
    • Login information was sent to the parents via email.
  • Students MUST attend a minimum of 10 sessions from now until the end of February 2021.
  • Students are encouraged to continue attending the Youth Group throughout the year and beyond after their Confirmation.

This year, your child will be preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. As your child will be learning this year, this sacrament will complete his/her initiation into the Catholic Church as he/she will become an “adult” in the faith, ready to take on and fulfill the promises you made for your child when they were first Baptized as Catholics.

As a member of the Catholic Church and in following the example and teachings of Christ, we are constantly called to serve our brothers and sisters in need. In the Gospel, Jesus said, “[W]hatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Mt. 25:40).  Therefore, as part of your child’s preparation for Confirmation and in responding to Christ’s call to service, each candidate will be required to complete ten (10) hours of "direct" community service during this catechetical year.

These ten (10) hours of community service will need to be completed prior to your child celebrating his/her confirmation. Your child will need to submit paperwork documenting their service hours no later than February 24, 2021. We have included some information (see to the right) regarding what will and will not count as community service for your child’s Confirmation, as well as the paperwork and process involved in reporting the community service hours they perform.

It is our hope that in performing “direct” service to people in need right in our community, each candidate for Confirmation will have the opportunity to grow in their faith, become men and women of virtue, and develop the practice of serving their neighbor. By sharing their time and talents with those in need, they hopefully will receive more than what they give and deepen their awareness of our call as Catholics to live as disciples of Christ and to share what we have in service to others.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you, and God bless you.
