Confirmation Community Service
**(NOTE: The information below is ONLY for those preparing to celebrate Confirmation in 2025.)
FOR STUDENTS PREPARING TO CELEBRATE CONFIRMATION IN 2025
This year, your child will be preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. As your child will be learning this year, this sacrament will complete his/her initiation into the Catholic Church as he/she will become an “adult” in the faith, ready to take on and fulfill the promises you made for your child when they were first Baptized as Catholics.
As a member of the Catholic Church and in following the example and teachings of Christ, we are constantly called to serve our brothers and sisters in need. In the Gospel, Jesus said, “[W]hatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Mt. 25:40). Therefore, as part of your child’s preparation for Confirmation and in responding to Christ’s call to service, each candidate will be required to complete twenty (20) hours of "direct" community service during this catechetical year.
These twenty (20) hours of community service will need to be completed prior to your child celebrating his/her confirmation. Your child will need to submit paperwork documenting their service hours no later than February 5, 2025. We have included some information (see above packet) regarding what will and will not count as community service for your child’s Confirmation, as well as the paperwork and process involved in reporting the community service hours they perform.
It is our hope that in performing “direct” service to people in need right in our community, each candidate for Confirmation will have the opportunity to grow in their faith, become men and women of virtue, and develop the practice of serving their neighbor. By sharing their time and talents with those in need, they hopefully will receive more than what they give and deepen their awareness of our call as Catholics to live as disciples of Christ and to share what we have in service to others.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you, and God bless you.
CONFIRMATION COMMUNITY SERVICE
INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES
The above Confirmation Community Service Information Packet contains all the information regarding the required "direct" community service hours in preparation for Confirmation. Here are some quick things to note:
Each candidate for Confirmation will be required to complete 20 (twenty) community service hours.
Service must be performed in direct contact with someone in need, and must be a non-remunerated activity (no payment or anything in return).
Candidates need to seek out organizations where they can perform direct service to those in need. Prior to completing service at any organization, they should contact the Religious Education Office to ensure that the organization and service activity are approved for the criteria of completing the "direct" service hours.
The community service must be done during the second year of preparation (anytime from June 2024, and onward).
A report will need to be completed and submitted to document the service hours done, with an original signature, along with a letter on the organization's original letterhead/stationery.
All service hours and documentation must be completed and submitted by February 5, 2025.
Candidates who fail to complete and submit the required service hours by the above due date will be delayed in celebrating the sacrament of Confirmation.
PARISH FESTIVAL
Confirmation students are required to complete two hours volunteering at the Parish Festival on Sunday, December 8th. These two hours are in addition to the required 20 "direct" community service hours.
